Join us on Saturday February 15, 2024  at 7:30 pm at the National Opera Center for another concert of music by Douglas Anderson: Songs and Such.  This concert will feature a wide selection of Anderson’s vocal compositions, including 5 premieres.  Participating singers include Michelle Seipel, Rachel Arky, Nicole Salamon, Blake Friedman, Virdell Williams, Dominique Hellsten, and The Hellsten Consort; they’ll be accompanied by Elizabeth Rodgers and others.

The program will include solo songs (no accompaniment!), songs with piano, songs with other instruments, and choral music.  Premieres will include Four Songs for SATB, La Derniere Chanson de Maurice (remember Maurice, the French rooster?), Spider in Autumn, When All Falls Silent, and the hilarious and moving Mezzo Intermezzo.  Songs you may have heard before include Nora’s Scene, Two ‘Erotic’ Songs, Fragments, Vocalise No. 1, Directions, Schrödinger’s Cat, Haiku, and Paul Bunyon Mourns for Babe the Ox.  Lyricists  include Andrew Joffe, Joan Eckerman, Susan E. Swain, Charles Anthony Silvestri, Douglas Anderson, a variety of haiku poets, and possibly even you (some overheard texts!).

As in the chamber music album Music in Diverse Styles, this program displays the wide variety of styles that Douglas Anderson uses.  These songs will make you laugh, weep, ponder fate, and cheer these great performers.

This concert is FREE! (Donations gratefully accepted)
